Java E-Commerce Web Developer

Green Island Interactive is an internet solutions company with offices in Dublin and New York that has been providing clients in Ireland, the U.K. and North America with creative and effective web solutions since 1999. Due to strong growth and rapid expansion, the company now has an opening for a Java E-Commerce Web Developer in its Dublin location. With a focus on providing solutions for the golf industry, an interest in golf is a plus (but not a requirement) for this position. The work is focused on Green Island’s SaaS system: Site Caddy.

The Role

Green Island Interactive is currently performing a major upgrade of our online client services platform, which includes content management, communications, e-commerce, customer relationship management, and much more. We're looking for a Java Web Developer to:

  • Lead development of the e-commerce component of our service
  • Implement the specifications of our Architect and CTO
  • Integrate Open Source components and web services where necessary
  • Integrate e-commerce functionality with other system components
  • Assist deployment of the end product
  • Plan testing, logging, support, etc.

The developer should have a strong background in either e-commerce, web services or both.

Start Date - Time Frame

This position is open immediately, and needs to be filled as soon as possible. Although this position is available as a 4-8 month contract initially, a full-time position with Green Island will be an option depending on performance. Working remotely is optional, however the candidate should be within commuting distance of our Dublin or New York locations.

Experience

Solid "well rounded" experience with Java web development is a must, as well as specific experience implementing enterprise scale systems. The successful applicant should be mature and responsible. All of the following are required:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in CS or related major
  • 3+ years of experience coding web systems/services in Java
  • 2+ years of experience implementing e-commerce with Java
  • Diverse knowledge of Java and web technologies

Responsibilities

The successful candidate would be responsible for the following:

  • Answering to CTO, team leads and project managers
  • Management of own schedule (while working to project milestones and deadlines)
  • High standards for integrity of final product
  • Understanding & enforcement of coding standards & documentation

Skills

The successful candidate will possess most or all of the following skills:

  • Object oriented design methodologies and patterns, UML
  • Experience with MVC architecture
  • Solid communications skills
  • Ability to both see the big picture and implement the details
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Any systems administration knowledge a plus
  • A positive, can-do attitude!

Technologies

Green Island uses predominantly Java and Open Source technologies. Knowledge of many of the following is required:

  • Code: Java, J2EE, JSP, Servlets
  • Server: Apache with Tomcat
  • Framework: Struts
  • Database: MySQL, Hibernate and JCR a plus
  • Web: HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX

Environment

Applicants should be comfortable working in the following environments:

  • OS: Windows and Linux
  • IDE: Eclipse / MyEclipse
  • Server: Apache with Tomcat
  • Version Control: Subversion or other similar VCS

E-Commerce

This role will specifically deal with e-commerce development, and the applicant should have solid practical experience developing online e-commerce applications. Knowledge of any of the following would be useful:

  • Complete online payment processing lifecycle
  • Building connections to payment gateways
  • PCI (Payment Card Industry) standards and compliance
  • Techniques for secure storage of confidential information
  • Online security in general

Salary

Negotiable, and largely dependent on experience, and whether position is full-time or contract. Please include salary requirements with CV/Résumé.
